Year 8 students attend NEMA Maths Day at UNE
Two committed teams of mathematicians departed Coonabarabran in the dark to attend the NEMA Maths Day in Armidale. Hosted by the University of New England, the day draws teams from all over the state to compete in an amazing battle of brains and endurance. Teams of four students work frantically to solve as many problems as possible in a series of timed competitions.
Our students performed brilliantly, and judges commented on the positive interactions and great teamwork that they witnessed from our students. Whilst not winning the competition, our students gained a valuable insight into the value of teamwork when solving challenging problems. They also had the opportunity to enjoy a day of life at the university, before the long ride home. Well done to George Bell, Benton Ernest, Tameka McGlashan, Hayden Maher, Max Phillips, Nils Thomas, Ellenah Wall, and James Whalan. They all represented our school with distinction.
