Riverina Conservatorium Visit
Jenny Binovec and her Saxophone Ensemble from the Riverina Conservatorium stopped at Coonabarabran as part of their regional tour.
On Sunday 17 September, Lachlan Eshman, Milly Smith, Caleb Smith, Hannah Smith and Ms Moore played in the Orbital Swing Band in their combined concert with the Saxophone Ensemble. The concert was held at St Lawrence’s School hall and featured some stunning performances by the band as well as the saxophone ensemble. On Monday morning, a few CHS students took part in a band workshop hosted by Jenny and her ensemble. The students who participated were: Milly Smith, Olivia Meier, Clover Hippisley, Rebecca Kenyon, Caleb Smith, Lachlan Eshman and Riley Manning. The students learnt two band pieces and worked together with the Riverina students and music students from Coonabarabran Public School and St Lawrence’s. Later in the day, the ensemble performed a program of works at the Coonabarabran Public School and a group of CHS students attended this performance. Two of our music students – Milly Smith and Olivia Meier – were lucky to have individual lessons with Jenny Binovec (clarinet) and Keith Griffin (flute). Lastly, on Tuesday morning, the ensemble joined the Year 11/12 Music class for a lesson. Hannah Smith played one of her HSC pieces for the ensemble and then joined in the ensembles performance of a few pieces. It was lovely to meet the staff and students of the Riverina Conservatorium and to exchange notes with them. We look forward to seeing them again in the future!
