Music Outreach Programme

Coonabarabran High School is the first rural high school to be involved in a new Music Outreach Programme. This programme was initiated by Mark Walton, a well-known performing musician and teacher, and involves students from the Sydney Conservatorium High School.

Mark has had a long involvement with Coonabarabran and, in-between travelling between Australia and New Zealand on a weekly basis, has launched the programme on Wednesday. Mark will be providing tuition once a week via Skype and Video Conference facilities to eight music students from Coonabarabran High School. In the near future, senior students from the Sydney Conservatorium High School will be taking on the tuition under Mark’s supervision. The Coonabarabran High students who will be receiving tuition are: Olivia Meier, Megan Hain, Clover Hippisley, Ellah Bowmaker, Declan Eshman, Sam Pickette, Alexander McWhirter and Caleb Smith. Six of these students have already had their first online session with Mark, and lessons will take place during lunch times on Mondays and Wednesdays from next week.

CHS is very privileged to be part of this programme and to be working with Mark and the students of the Conservatorium High School. Given the shortage of music tuition for woodwind and brass students in Coonabarabran, this programme is providing a much-needed service. We are very grateful to Mark for his vision, and look forward to having him inspire a new generation of musicians at CHS.
