Coonabarabran High School musicians entertained an audience of about 100 people with a lovely programme of music on Sunday 16 September. The main purpose of the concert was to give the HSC Music students – Ian Whittall and Tyler Watson – an opportunity to play their performance pieces to an audience.
Ian performed three works accompanied by Mrs Nancy Doolan, and Tyler performed two pieces, one of which was accompanied by Miss Sherelle Moore. The students have been preparing these pieces for their practical examination. Both students played exceptionally well and should be commended for their hard work and persistence.
The rest of the programme consisted of solo performances by various musicians, the jazz ensemble as well as performances by the Year 11 Music students. Six of the eight students who are currently being taught by Mark Walton via Skype performed solo pieces. They are also members of the jazz ensemble which performed in public for the first time. Students performed a wide variety of pieces on clarinet, saxophone, flute, trombone, piano and guitar, and there were a few vocal performances as well. Angus Lambert and Liam Russell, who are current Year 11 Music students, performed some solos, and ended the concert with Don’t let the sun go down on me together with Mr Moffat and some of the choir members. All students who participated should be commended for their fine performances – they did the school proud! A big thank you goes to Mrs Nancy Doolan, Miss Sherelle Moore, Mr Moffat who stepped in as drummer at the very last minute, and Mr Armstrong for managing all things sound-related.
