ABC Journalist Jessie Davies to feature at the Feast of Words !
Jessie Davies will be joining our annual Feast of Words as a presenter this year which is fabulous. Hailing from a farm east of Coonabarabran, Jessie now lives in Dubbo and works as a journalist for the ABC. Her job involves reporting on the latest news from the Western Plains for television, radio and digital audiences. She says her job is fun, fast-paced and fascinating. She travels a lot for her work and earlier this year she even travelled to Norfolk Island for a month to report on the island’s growing political tensions. She’s passionate about gender equality and in her spare time she volunteers for an organisation called Country to Canberra which encourages girls from rural Australia to reach their leadership potential. Our current Year 11 female students benefited from this great program last year.
As part of our festival, Jessie will conduct workshops centred upon the demands of journalistic writing, which will be wonderful in terms of students fortifying their skills as writers of clear text. Jessie brings with her a wealth of experience and expertise. Before joining the ABC Jessie reported for The Canberra Times, and before that, the country’s biggest rural newspaper, The Land. During her career she has covered stories ranging from murder trials, royal visits, political scandals and showgirl competitions.
Jessie holds a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of Technology Sydney and a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science from the Australian National University, Canberra. She was educated at St Lawrence’s Central School, Coonabarabran and St Vincent’s College, Potts Point, Sydney. We are very grateful that Jessie is able to join our annual celebration of all things literary!
