Students fundraise for Women’s Shelter

Over the last three weeks, students in Year 12 have been fundraising for the Gunnedah Women’s Shelter.

In response to a local need, the shelter will provide crisis shelter to women and children in the area of Gunnedah and surrounds. In conjunction with the SRC, Jimmy Whalan, Ally Richards, Byron Ritchie, Nils Thomas, Harald Nilsson, and Lillie Jones have coordinated a bake sale and a mufti day to raise money. All proceeds will go toward providing kitchen wares for the shelter, including a microwave and kettle.

The shelter will be opening in early 2021, and head of the project, Tracey Reid, has expressed great gratitude for the generous donations from Coonabarabran High School staff and students. The students are hoping to continue the partnership into 2021, with the possibility of volunteering to assist with some gardening at the shelter. Well done to the students who have generously donated their time to this worthy project!
